Welcome to the 2016 mini-fotomarathon spring edition in Berlin!
This year we have a special mini-fotomarathon in spring, on Saturday, March 26th 2016, during Easter Weekend, as an official partner event of the exhibition “Nervous System: quantified life and the social question”. Nervous Systems is an essay exhibition with artistic works, newly commissioned productions and contextualizing materials, organised by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in collaboration with the Tactical Technology Collective, co-curated by Stephanie Hankey, Marek Tuszynski and Anselm Franke.
In a premiere -countering many years of closely guarded secrets around the Fotomarathon’s main theme- we can say that the motto of this mini-fotomarathon will be inspired by the objects, installations and narrative of the Nervous Systems exhibition. To help participants get inspiration from the topic of the exhibition, the fee to the Fotomarathon includes free entry to the exhibition.
The mini fotomarathon is -as the name suggests- a small and reduced version of the traditional 12 hour fotomarathon. The pictures taken are downloaded at the end of the event and projected which gives everybody the possibility to talk about each others pictures, explain them, and comment. We invite everybody to exchange ideas and experiences.
A special jury will select six photographs, one per topic, to be exhibited in October 2016 as part of the Fotomarathon’s activities during the European Month of Photography. Further details on this will be announced after the June Fotomarathon.
In addition to producing high level photography, the Fotomarathon challenges participants to discover the city from a new perspective. Those who want can also use a tripod, passers-by become participants, friends turn into art directors and lighting assistants.
Who can participate?
Everyone with enthusiasm and a digital camera with a memory card can take part and accept the challenge in heart and soul. At this point we cannot accept participation with a mobile phone. Whether amateur or professional, alone or in a team, an original Berliner or a visitor –the most important thing is to be creative, relentless and tireless. Participant numbers are limited to 50 participants.
The regular registration for the mini fotomarathon on March 26th, 2016 is 10 EUR. It can only be paid offline via bank transfer. The fee is 15 EUR on the day of the mini fotomarathon and can only be paid in cash, subject to availability. The fee includes free entry to the exhibition on the same day.
Mini Fotomarathon – how does that work?
13:00 hs: Â The Fotomarathon team is at the location, and participants can collect their start numbers and additional information. Participants can also visit the “Nervous Systems” Exhibition, as part of their quest for inspiration.
14.00 hours:Â We are ready to go! Participants get their start number, the six topics, and instructions to go to the final meeting point. There are no intermediate meeting points on a mini fotomarathon.
18.00 – 19.00 hours: After 4 hours of Fotomarathon, the six digital pictures will be downloaded from the participants´camera by the Fotomarathon team. We will take a look at the pictures together, chat and there will be the possibility to get something to drink/eat from the café at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. All participants will be able to vote for their favourite photo series, and the winner will take the “People’s Choice Award”
You can only participate with a digital camera -so we can download the photos right there and prepare a slideshow. No analogue cameras, no mobile phones are allowed.
